Can I work with you part time whilst in a full-time post at my hospital?

Yes. Many Guild workers choose us to top up their pay and work alongside their full-time jobs.

Can I do agency work in the hospital where I am employed on a substantive or bank basis?

Sadly not. Any health professional substantively employed will be unable to pick up agency work in the same health board, hospital, or trust.

When will I know if an application is successful?

Once you’ve submitted your application, you’ll need to go through some initial screening questions. During this time, we’ll advise if you’ve been successful.

Do you only recruit nurses?

No. We recruit nurses across many specialties, as well as ODPs, theatre nurses, surgical first assistants (UK only), midwives and healthcare assistants.

Do you employ nurses, midwives or HCAs who have trained overseas?

We recruit all nurses, midwives and HCAs who have a minimum of 6 months recent experience in the UK or Republic of Ireland. The required experience can vary depending on your specialty.

Do you only recruit for Scotland?

No, we also recruit nurses for work in Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland.

Do I require a driving license to work with you?

This is judged on a case-by-case basis. Please call your local branch to find out more.

I used to work with the Scottish Nursing Guild previously. Is my application still valid?

This will depend on how long it has been since you worked with us. Please call our Regulation, Training, and Compliance (RTC) team and they will be able to advise you further: 0131 221 7178 (UK) or 01 9023083 (Republic of Ireland).

How much experience do I need?

We require a minimum of 6 months’ experience within the UK or Republic of Ireland for general nurses and HCAs. The requirements for specialist nurses and midwives will vary.
